Steps in making your soaps

This simple process is called Melt and Pour. It’s pretty basic, so it can be a fun activity for you and your family.

Step 1: Ready your tools and kits

The first that you need to need to do is to prepare your soap making kits. It is basically like baking where you need measuring cups, mold, and other basic ingredients. First, you need to make sure to use a heat-safe container because you will be melting items during the process, then you need a wire whisk to mix all the ingredients. We recommend using a metal whisk because it does not stick.

Next is choosing the right mold. Silicone or plastic molds are ideal so it will be easier for you to remove them once it has cooled down. You can be playful by choosing different sizes and shapes based on your preference.

Step 2: Choose your preferred recipe and fragrance.

One of the best aspects of creating your soap is that you can get to choose its scent. You can choose any fragrance oil that you prefer. Another ingredient that you need to prepare is the soap base. There are different types of soap base to choose from. However, if you are a beginner, it is best to purchase a pre-mixed base composed of soap, glycerin, and plant butter. As much as possible, choose natural products for the plant extracts and fragrance oils. In that way, it will not harm you or your family.

There are a lot of online stores where you can buy these ingredients. So, it will be easier for you to gather them. If you want to mix your soap base, that’s okay. As long as you are already familiar with its components, then you will not encounter any problems.

Step 3: Melt your soap base

Once you have all the materials and ingredients ready, it is time to start making soap! The first thing that you need to do is to melt the soap base. There are two ways for you to that. The first is by using a microwave oven and the second is by using a stove. You can choose either of the two because they are both effective.

For a microwave oven, just put your soap base in a container and set the microwave timer for one minute. If it is not completely melted, you can continue heating it for another 20 seconds. Carefully observe its progress as it goes because you don’t want to burn your base.

When melting using a stove, place the soap base in a pot and set the stove for medium to low hear. Mix it constantly with the whisk until it melts.

Step 4: Mix your chosen fragrance.

Once your done melting the base, you can now start additional ingredients such as the fragrance oil. As recommended, 1 teaspoon of fragrance oil is enough for 1 pound of soap. Mix it thoroughly so it will be properly incorporated into the soap base. Ideally, you should put other ingredients before it gets cold so it can still absorb the smell and its other components because the melted soap base solidifies only after a few minutes.

Step 5: It is time to mold.

Once you are done adding the fragrance, you have to immediately put it in the mold. Slowly pour then so it will not create any bubbles. Remember, this does not have a baking soda, so it will not rise or expand. As much as possible, fill the molds close to the edge to get their full shape.

Step 6: Let it cool, and it is done.

Depending on the size of your mold, it may take up to 24 hours to completely solidify. Once it has reached that level, all you need to do is remove the soaps from the mold, and you are good to go! If you are sending them as gifts, you can use colorful plastic and box wrappers to make them look more elegant. Otherwise, you can stack them in your bathroom like wall decor.
