Director Zach Cregger’s new reboot of Resident Evil has made a strong debut at the Indian box office. Capitalizing on franchise nostalgia and the appeal of the horror genre, the movie brought in a net collection of INR 2.6 crore on Friday, September 18.

In India, Zach Cregger’s picture secured a place among the top 10 opening-day collections for Hollywood releases. It climbed past Project Hail Mary to land in the fifth position, sitting just beneath The Devil Wears Prada 2.

On its September 18 launch, Resident Evil brought in 2.6 crore, achieving an overall average occupancy of 14.9% across roughly 4,314 shows nationwide. This marks a strong beginning, outperforming the two Bollywood titles released on the same day: Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Daayra and Kunal Kemmu’s Vibe.

Combined, those domestic Hindi releases (Vibe and Daayra) collected a total of 2.40 crore, meaning Zach Cregger’s horror feature pulled in higher figures than the mainstream Hindi debuts on Day 1.
Given that survival-thrillers and horror movies historically experience significant growth on Saturday nights in Indian markets, Resident Evil is well-positioned for a healthy opening weekend total. If the momentum continues, the reboot—featuring Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, and Kali Reis—is on track for a 3-day weekend haul of 9 to 10 crore in India.
