The Marathi thriller Gondhal has been selected as India’s official submission for the 2027 Academy Awards. Director Santosh Davakhar stated that he believed in the movie’s potential right from the start. Grounded in the folk traditions of Maharashtra, the narrative delves into themes of desire and violence unfolding over the course of a single night.
Out of thirty-three entries submitted across multiple Indian languages, Gondhal was ultimately chosen. This achievement marks the fourth time a Marathi-language film has earned this esteemed Oscar nomination.
