Katy Perry finalized an agreement in July 2020 to purchase a lavish USD 15 million estate located in Montecito. The property acquisition hit a roadblock when the vendor, Carl Westcott, attempted to back out of the deal, initiating a lawsuit that challenged the legality of the contract and cited his impaired mental state following a surgical procedure.
At the conclusion of the legal proceedings, the judge issued a ruling supporting Perry, which confirmed her rights to the property and awarded her financial damages along with legal fees stemming from the protracted conflict.
