Back in 2023, the success of Queen Charlotte, a spinoff of the Bridgerton universe, changed the game for the franchise. The main seasons of the regency drama series were already much loved, but a spinoff getting so much love from the audience cemented the impact of this world for good.
The producers realized that people wanted to see more stories based in the Bridgerton world, and the next opportunity has finally arrived. Violet Bridgerton, the dowager viscountess and matriarch of the Bridgerton family, is getting her own spinoff prequel story with Edmund. Here’s what we know.
Bridgerton: Violet & Edmund’s Prequel Spinoff Officially Announced
Shondaland, the production house helming Bridgerton, took to its social media accounts to officially announce that work has begun on a prequel spinoff, this time focusing on the story of Violet and Edmund Bridgerton, the parents of the Bridgerton siblings. The fans cannot contain their excitement.

After all, this was a highly requested prequel in the fandom. For years, the fans have hoped to see the love story between the matriarch and the late patriarch of the Bridgerton family. In the main seasons, Edmund has been deceased for many years. This spinoff prequel will shed light on their youth.

“The love match that started it all shall soon be yours to see, dear reader,” the announcement of the prequel stated. According to the official press release by Netflix itself, “The series will chronicle the early life of a young Lady Violet and tell the story of her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.”
For the unversed, the matriarch version of Violet Bridgerton is played by Ruth Gemmell. Meanwhile, Connie Jenkins-Greig played the teenage version of then-Violet Ledger in Queen Charlotte. It has not been revealed whether Jenkins-Greig will reprise the role in Violet’s own spinoff or not.
Violet Ledger & Edmund Bridgerton Prequel: What We Know So Far
Gemmell is expected to reprise her role as the older version of Violet, but no other casting decisions are confirmed. Shonda Rhimes will co-write and be the showrunner of the spinoff alongside Nicholas Nardini. Tom Verica and Betsy Beers will be the executive producers of the awaited prequel show.
In other related news, the main Bridgerton series is chugging along despite the prequel announcement. Season 5 is more than halfway into filming and is expected to be released in 2027. It will focus on Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling’s story, played by Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza.
