Actor Sree Vishnu’s Telugu film Comrade Kalyan was released in theaters on October 9. Although the film had limited pre-release buzz, it registered a decent opening-day collection. However, the latest Telugu film received mixed responses on social media during its Day 1 screenings. Inspired by famous real-life events from 1992, the film is being treated as an action-comedy.

The film, which also stars Mahima Nambiar, had a decent opening at the box office. Moreover, it has made the list of Google’s top trends. The Telugu comedy earned 2.1 crore net at the box office on Day 1. Given its opening, the movie is expected to see a hike in collections on Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, the Telugu film has registered the actor’s second-highest opening post-COVID. It trails only his film Single, which earned 2.5 crore on its opening day. Additionally, Comrade Kalyan is the actor’s third release this year and marks his biggest opening of 2026

The film is centered around a Naxal-dominated village on the Andhra-Odisha border. In the village, a theater owner uses communist sentiment to keep his old cinema running. He joins the Naxals and kidnaps a leader, setting off a chain of events. The film has been directed by Janaki Ram Marella and written by Bhanu Bhogavarapu and Janaki Ram Marella. The film also stars Radhika Sarathkumar and Upendra Limaye.
