Godzilla Minus Zero’s early reviews on X [formerly Twitter]
Several critics and journalists have shared their reviews of Godzilla Minus Zero on X, which was formerly known as Twitter. Film critic Tom Chatalbash wrote, “#GodzillaMinusZero is a miraculously satisfying sequel, not only doubling down on the dizzying visual scope, but widening its emotional sights as well as it explores the aftermath of war with the emotional aftershocks, displacement and trauma it tows along with it. The set pieces are unbelievably visceral and bone-rattling, showcasing even more refined, wonderfully detailed vfx and sound design that make this a film that truly needs to be seen on the biggest screen possible. Yamazaki makes sure that, like its beloved predecessor, this is a Kaiju film deeply rooted in character, delivering a thunderously potent emotional punch in addition to popcorn spectacle. I never thought I’d tear up watching a Godzilla film, but here we are folks and I’m certainly not mad about it. Couldn’t recommend this one enough so see it big and LOUD!”

Matt Rodgers another film critic said, “#GodzillaMinusZero is some feat. The best monster VFX since Winston and Tippett in 93, all used to compliment a story of accountability in conflict that holds a mirror up to our own broken world. Simply incredible blockbuster filmmaking. #LFF2026.”
Movie lover Ren Geekness says, “#GodzillaMinusZero is one hell of an emotive spectacle! Takashi Yamazaki captures grandiose destruction & violence through the prism of human guilt, grief & PTSD.
A profound examination of humanity & the horrors of war via larger-than-life filmmaking.”
CarlRoberts2, a news editor, said #GodzillaMinusZero is a brilliant, emotional, epic kaiju smack down that is heavy on the human side of things. The story is good and the effects are brilliant, with an opening that highlights them brilliantly. The film tries but can’t match the bar set by the first film though.”
Erik Anderson, another critic, said, “GODZILLA MINUS ZERO is pretty great, even if its mere status as a sequel puts it in ONE’s shadow more than a bit. But it does feature the best and most sobering trauma response to the U.S. dropping its nuclear bombs on Japan I’ve seen in any Godzilla movie.”
Philip says, “#GodzillaMinusZero is an absolute sensation. Blockbuster filmmaking of the highest possible level. It’s just as good, if not better than Minus One. There’s so much I want to talk about, but I can’t. You just have to experience it for yourself. Bravo
@nostoro. Incredible work!”
FanDango’s Erik Davis added, “Takashi Yamazaki’s #GodzillaMinusZero is a perfect sequel in all the ways. It deepens the story, the characters, and the lore while delivering some of the most visceral, emotionally powerful action sequences. This one definitely kicks it up a notch.” Read the complete review here.
Writer/Podcaster Tom O’Brien said, As surprised as I was by the filmmaking audacity of “Minus One,” director Takashi Yamazaki may have outdone himself with GODZILLA MINUS ZERO and its richer emotional story. Even its Oscar-winning VFX are kicked up by a magnificent new kaiju in town.”
Tara Bennett, an author said, “Godzilla & kaiju fans gird your loins – Yamazaki-san has delivered a follow-up w an expansion of scale that is often jaw-dropping. Yet #GodzillaMinusZero is grounded by its complex human stories that bloom darkly in the wake of war & loss. Yoshioka-san’s Noda is a cast MVP.”
