Despite the film’s fame and the cast’s popularity, it underperformed at the box office. The film, directed by Priyadarshan, was originally released in theaters in 1994. To date, it remains one of the most celebrated Malayalam films in Kerala. The film was restored in 4K Dolby Atmos for its re-release.

The Mohanlal classic had a poor start at the box office upon its re-release in theaters. This was despite there being no major releases dominating the Kerala box office this weekend. The 1994 classic is one of the most popular films from Mollywood and is still discussed. Despite that, the film grossed just 13 lakh at the Kerala box office on Day 1. The film was showcased on 455 screens on its opening day.

Despite the popularity of the Malayalam classic Thenmavin Kombathu, it did not rank among the top five re-releases of Mohanlal’s films. More About Thenmavin Kombathu
Manickam (Mohanlal) is the manservant and best friend of Srikrishnan (Nedumudi Venu). On a trip together, they get saddled with a village performer, Karuthambi (Shobana), and her uncle. Both men fall in love with her. However, Srikrishnan turns out to be more intent on having her for himself and decides to make life somewhat difficult for Manickam.
The film features an ensemble cast led by Mohanlal and Shobana. Nedumudi Venu, Pappu, Sreenivasan, Sukumari, and Kaviyoor Ponnamma are also part of the cast. The original 35mm print has been scanned in 4K as part of the restoration process.
