Christian Bale has revealed the inspiration behind his depiction of the villainous Garth Ennis in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Bale told Vanity Fair that he drew on past literary characters for his take on the Thor villain, such as Macbeth and Captain Ahab from Moby Dick. “I felt this unbelievable connection between them, feeling like I’d been there before,” says Bale. “And it gave me a kind of mental stamina to pull through. I had a kind of primal strength to it.”
“This is the stuff I have always been interested in, in terms of characters and stories,” he adds. “And I’d never had the chance to portray a criminal previously.” That’s what people want, you know? They want to see you go somewhere darker and darker.”
Bale’s Macbeth references include his decision to speak with an American accent and use a fake beard for his character.

The storyline of Thor: Love and Thunder
The story of Thor: Love and Thunder are about a love triangle between Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).
In the beginning, Thor’s father, Odin, finds his son in love with an unknown woman. Odin goes to Asgard to find out who this woman is, but he doesn’t care about her name.
Loki knows that the woman is Jane Foster, and he feels jealous because she will be the future queen of Asgard instead of him. To take the throne, Loki reveals Jane Foster’s identity as a human. Thor marries Jane in the end, and they have children who will be future kings of Asgard’s throne.
Tom Hiddleston plays the role of Loki in all three Thor movies. He is jealous of Thor because he wants to be king instead of his brother, so he plans to send Thor away from Earth and remove him from the spell that Odin put on Mjolnir (Thor’s hammer).
