The DHI and FUE hair transplantation procedures are both effective methods for hair transplanting. They each have advantages over each other. However, with an experienced surgeon, you cannot identify the difference between the two after surgery.
In this article, we will shed light on how they both work and the tools used. Be sure to get clarity from a professional before having surgery about the most suitable method for you.
DHI Hair Transplantation
DHI hair transplantation (https://cosmeticium.com/dhi-hair-transplant/) is a method where hair collected is planted directly on the hairless area. “DHI pens” are used. Your surgeon will not require opening canals to transplant. Hair follicles are placed inside these pens and directly implanted in the area. There is minimal bleeding and scars as the canals opened in the hair follicles are of the exact size.
This method is most appropriate for transplantations of the eyebrows, mustache, beard, patients who dislike shaving, thickening of bald and receding areas, and those requiring transplantation on the front line.
DHI Hair Transplantation Process
- Collection
The hair strands with a diameter of less than 1mm at the scalp are removed and collected using the micro-motor tool. No cuts or scars have to be made as the hairs are ready for transplantation.
- Canal stage
Using pens that are of the hair strand height, the strands are carefully put in suitable canals on the skin.
- Plantation
The hair strands collected in the pens in the second stage above are then stuck in hairless areas. In this method, the canals are opened, and at the same time, hair is transplanted in them. It’s easy and less messy and ensures that the angle and depth are appropriate. These strands of hair remain in the same position even months after transplantation.
Advantages
- Achieves increase of hair density
- Completely safe
- No pain
- 100% natural results
- Above 90% rate of Grafts Viability
FUE Hair Transplantation
FUE hair transplantation is a method where “canals,” which are micro holes, are opened in the part that hair was lost. Grafts are later planted in the canals. A linear scar does not occur in the area where there is extraction. You will rarely notice that there has been extraction in that area in the first month. This method is a clean and natural method of extraction.
It’s crucial to ensure that the stage of opening canals is done correctly, as it’s at this stage where the process’s density and naturality are determined. For hair to come out, canals have to be put at an appropriate angle. Successful results are achieved by optimally adjusting the canal depth and ensuring the depth is close to the natural hair.
Process of FUE Hair Transplantation
- Collection
With a micro motor, a sharp point and hole tool, the grafts get removed from the scalp one after the other. The technician collects the grafts individually; these grafts have sides that split from the skin. Points of diameter, ranging from 0.7mm-1.25mm, are used depending on the patients’ graft size.
- Canal stage
After ensuring the patient is in no discomfort or pain, tools that are Micro-sized called ‘handle’ are now used to make micro-lateral incisions, also referred to as canals with specific depth, orientation, angle, and density. The handle should have a little sharp surface and have appropriate graft thickness and height to achieve this.
- Plantation
Grafts collected in the first stage are planted in the incisions made in the second stage. This stage is very critical as only appropriate hairs should be placed in specific canals. Grafts with one hair strand should be planted at the front.
Advantages of FUE
- You can smoothly go back to work after three days.
- You attain a natural look after 15 days.
- Minimal risk of bleeding and infection
- It enables maximum density of plantation.
DHI vs. FUE Hair Transplantation
- No bleeding in the DHI method as transplantation is done with a special implanter, unlike FUE, where you have to open a canal before transplanting.
- Using the pen in DHI makes it easier to have accurate angles and directions.
- Before the procedure, the whole scalp needs to be shaved in FUE, while in DHI, you only trim the donor area.
- After the DHI technique, you can return to your routine quicker than patients who have undergone FUE.
- The success rate for DHI is 95%, which is higher than that of FUE.
- For DHI, the maximum number of grafts per session is 2000, while that of FUE is 5000 grafts. Therefore patients requiring more than 2000 grafts for DHI will undergo more sessions to complete the process.
- DHI has no postulation, pitting, or crusting, which can be experienced on FUE.
- Extracted grafts in DHI are directly placed on the recipient area. At the same time, FUE requires that grafts extracted to be placed in a particular solution before the opening of canals is done to implant the grafts extracted.
As seen above, both of these methods are effective, they only differ in their technicality. At Cosmeticium, we have experienced surgeons who can advise our clients on the most appropriate method for them, depending on their situation. Contact us for more information or any queries.
