This His Dark Materials Season 3 all information related to it blog post is about His dark materials season 3. It talks about the third and final book of His dark materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, published in 2000. His Dark Materials is a story set in various parallel universes- ours, Lyra’s world of Oxford, and another for which she finds windows at different points in her life. The first volume, Northern Lights (published as The Golden Compass in North America), tells the story of Lyra’s journey through worlds outside our own with her dæmon Pantalaimon – who can change shape from one animal form to another.
When will His Dark Materials Season 3 release?
Production has kicked off, which means we’re one step closer to watching the new episodes. Both seasons one and two (shot back to back) aired in early November 2019 and 2020 respectively, but given that the cameras have only just started rolling, season three won’t be arriving until 2022.
What is the plot of His Dark Materials Season 3?
The coming season is based on the third and final book in Philip Pullman’s book series, The Amber Spyglass. This means that there will be a rebellion against the Authority with Asriel trying to build the new Republic of Heaven. But he needs the Subtle Knife, which is currently held by Will.
“It’s war,” said McAvoy on The One Show. “At the end of the second season we sort of declare war on the Kingdom of Heaven, so yeah it gets pretty down and dirty, and there’s gonna be a lot of fisticuffs and a lot of explosions and all that stuff.
Lyra has been captured by Mrs. Coulter, who is determined to stop her daughter from fulfilling the witches’ prophecy and becoming the second Eve, in turn saving humanity.
“I hope that we walked the line where you can see Mrs. Coulter in two ways,” Jack Thorne said of the character when chatting to The Beat before the season-two finale. “You can see someone that’s intent on pursuing power and you can see someone that’s intent on pursuing Lyra, and that there is a contradiction within her to what she truly wants, and she hasn’t resolved that question.”
He added: “When you get an actor as good as Ruth Wilson, you’re sort of working on two different layers when you’re writing. You’re writing Mrs. Coulter from the book, but you’re also writing the part that Ruth Wilson plays, and I think they married together very nicely.”
In the book, you will learn about angels or watchers. You will also go to new worlds. One is called the Land of the Dead and one is called the muleta world.
And in the second season, there was a moment where someone sat on a bench. This was from one of the books, and it hints that this is how the series will end.
Who will be starring in His Dark Materials Season 3?
The BBC has confirmed that the following characters will all feature: Lyra (Dafne Keen), Will (Amir Wilson), Mrs. Coulter (Ruth Wilson), Mary Malone (Simone Kirby), Serafina Pekkala (Ruta Gedmintas), Father MacPhail (Will Keen), and Lord Asriel (James McAvoy).
Chatting about McAvoy’s return in the special finale cameo, screenwriter Jack Thorne said (via Radio Times): “Executive producer Dan McCulloch moved mountains to make it happen and James McAvoy, very brilliantly and generously, came in and gave us a COVID day.
I admire James because he planted his feet. His feet were in the air and it looked like he was shouting. I am happy that we didn’t tell you about something that happened before this point. It was a good thing that this secret stayed up to now so it wouldn’t be spoiled.
Speaking previously to Radio Times, McAvoy revealed that initially, he wasn’t in line for the role of Lord Asriel. But after another actor dropped out, he was drafted in: “It was actually very last minute. I happened to be chatting to the casting director, who’s a friend of mine, waxing lyrical about how much I love the books, and then they got let down by whoever else was doing it originally.
What can we expect from the star cast?
“So she called me up and said, ‘Do you think you can come work for us on Monday?’ That was the Friday. It seems like they had been let down by a couple of people at the last minute.”
And some new faces have been added to the cast: Suicide Squad’s Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Commander Ogunwe, The Durrells’ Jamie Ward as Father Gomez, Amber Fitzgerald-Woolf as Ama, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Justice League), Simon Harrison (Endeavour) and Chipo Chung (Into the Badlands) as rebel angels Balthamos, Baruch and Xaphania respectively.
There is a chance that we will see Lyra’s friend Roger in season two.
Lee Scoresby (Lin-Manuel Miranda), Lord Boreal (Ariyon Bakare), and Colonel John Parry (Andrew Scott) all met their makers in season two, and while we wouldn’t bet all our money on them not coming back, it feels likely that they’re gone.
Peaky Blinders star Helen McCrory was the voice of Stelmaria, Lord Asriel’s daemon. But following her death earlier this year, there is still not sure how the creators will address that. We haven’t thought about it, and we’re not going to talk about it. When that time comes, someone else will be honored to step into her shoes.
