In The Dark Season, 3 is a drama that tells the story of murder through four perspectives. The four perspectives are those of the murdered Laura, her mother (Emma Cunningham), the detective in charge of solving her case and a forensic psychiatrist. Season two follows Detective Robin Griffin as she investigates who killed Laura, and Season three is about the psychiatrist Dr John River as he tries to help Emma find some closure

The season starts with Laura, who was in charge of investigating the death of her fellow detective’s son. We soon learn that this task has been too much for her to handle and she takes some time off work.
Next, we meet Detective Birch, who becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to his partner’s son after he is found dead and buried in an unmarked grave. This leads him on a dark journey into drug addiction, as he tries to find answers any way he can.
Anderson (Lachlan Murdoch) in the third episode. Anderson begins a romantic relationship with Sarah Gorton after helping her out of some difficult situations.
The fourth chapter follows detective Tully as he investigates the death of a child that has seen his first birthday.
Robin Griffin. The first episode follows the story from Emma’s point of view and introduces us to her life, John River, Sophie Cunningham (her daughter), Royce (druggie who killed Laura)
Detective Inspector Robin Griffin (who finds out that Laura is deceased). In Episode two we learn that the police are investigating a rape incident. In Episode Three, we see how the investigation is progressing.
The fourth episode features an interview conducted between Griffin and one of Laura’s former friends: now colleague, Dr Tanya Reedman (who may know more about her death). Griffin interviews Detective Larsen (played by Nelsan Ellis)
In the final chapter of this four-episode series, we see a flashback to Laura’s (played by Allison Tolman) first day at work. She is an intern in the police department and gets assigned to be partners with Detective Griffin (played by Algee Smith).
