Over recent years, marijuana has become a booming sensation all over the country, as more and more states have gone down the path of legalizing its use. Additionally, it’s not only the United States whose marijuana use has become more and more acceptable but also countries such as Canada have also embraced the use of marijuana. Maryland is the recent state to have developed an interest in the legalization of marijuana Lawmakers in Maryland have come up with a legislative group whose main mandate is to consider the viability of legalizing recreational Cannabis but only until 2020.

The legislative group is required to study the possibility of legalizing cannabis either through a referendum vote or through legislative laws. According to the Baltimore Sun, however, the formation of the bipartisan group is a big indicator that the legalization of cannabis legislation which was presented earlier in the Maryland senate house is not likely to pass this year. As a matter of fact, the two bills which were presented at the Maryland state were scheduled to be heard on February 26th and March 6th respectively. This however seems will not be happening anytime soon.
Maryland’s Democrat senate house speaker from Annapolis, Michael Busch, expressed his thoughts on the matter, and he was heard saying that he wanted the legislators to comprehend the inner workings and all the legal undertakings that involve the legalization of recreational cannabis. Additionally, he added that the legislators should ensure they fully understand the legal perspective of the matter before moving on. The bipartisan group formed to tackle the legalization of cannabis will have quite a daunting task on their hands, as they will be required to ensure they pass a major bill into law. The group’s mandates, among others, include:

Developing the proper frameworks and structures that will enable easy licensing and taxation of the players in the industry.
Creating various ways and methods to ensure there is participation from small business entities, women-owned enterprises as well as businesses owned by minority groups in the state.

Legalizing recreational marijuana is a wave which has hit almost every part of the country and Maryland is no different. The industry is a multi-million dollar industry, with sales amounting up to $100 million in sales in the first 12 months of operation. The legalization of cannabis will certainly be a welcome idea in Maryland, as it has numerous economic benefits to business owners in the state. However, for now, Maryland will have to wait until 2020 for that to happen. Maryland to legalize adult use marijuana in 2020
