Introduction to the A League of Their Own
Having been a film buff for as long as I can remember, some movies have had an indelible impression on me. For instance, Raiders of the Lost Ark is still my favorite Indiana Jones movie to this day. I’m also a huge fan of The Shawshank Redemption and Saving Private Ryan. That’s not to say that all movies are created equal, but there are some which stand out from the rest. And for my money, A League of Their ranks up there with the best of the best.
It’s directed by Penny Marshall and stars a cast that includes Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, along with other stars at that time. It’s also a film which could have easily gone either way – it’s just as good as it is funny, but also has a heartwarming story to it. I can’t think of any other movie I’ve seen where the CGI was so good that it took me out of the story.

The storyline of the A League of Their Own
It is a true story about an all-woman professional baseball league formed during World War II when the men went off to war. Women were recruited to be on this team and they became concerned with the gender stereotypes that prevailed at the time, such as women’s bodies being too weak for playing baseball. This article discusses this film’s history and how it is important to America even today.

Maybelle Blair, who inspired ‘A League Of Their Own,’ dies at the age of 95
Maybelle Blair, who helped inspire the movie “A League of Their Own,” came out at 95 years old. Now a great-grandmother, Blair moved from Texas to England in 1949 with her then-husband Charles. She recounted: “I was sitting in a bar and a guy was playing the piano and singing ‘Fools Rush In,'” she said. “And I thought to myself: ‘Oh, he doesn’t know.’ So I went over and introduced myself. After talking to him for a second, I told him: ‘You don’t know what you’re singing about.'”
Blair and Charles moved to London, where she found work in radio. Though she was not part of the film studios’ act, Blair called the experience “quite astonishing.” She said it was inspiring that Warner Bros. decided to re-enact her story.
