Rufus Sewell joins the biographical film Elvis Presley by Baz Luhrmann

Following the recent incorporation of Oscar nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal as Gladys Presley, Variety brings the news that The man in the high castle Student Rufus Sewell has joined the cast of director Baz Luhrmann's upcoming music biographical film, centered on the life of the legendary rock star Elvis Presley. Sewell will play the role of Presley's father, Vernon Presley, who handled the finances of the Rock King due to his constant fear of returning to poverty.

Sewell recently starred in Rupert Goold Judy's biographical drama alongside Oscar-winning Renee Zellweger. His other notable film credits include: Village, A gentlemen's tale, The legend of the fox, The ilusionist and the next one will be seen in the dramatic movie The father with Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins and A gentlemen's tale Olivia Colman

Austin Butler (Once upon a time in Hollywood, The dead do not die) stars in the lead role as Elvis alongside Oscar winner Tom Hanks (A beautiful day in the neighborhood, The charge), who plays Colonel Tom Parker, Presley's manager, and Olivia DeJonge (The visit), who will play Presley's only wife, Priscilla.

The film will explore Elvis's life and music through his complicated relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Parker discovered Presley when he was a stranger and moved quickly as his only representation. Parker was responsible for several milestones, including Presley's record deal with RCA and his successful acting career.

Elvis The biographical film will be co-written by Luhrmann, who will direct, and BAFTA winner Craig Pearce (Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!) Luhrmann will also produce alongside Oscar winner Catherine Martin (The Great Gatsby), Gail Berman, Patrick McCormick and Schuyler Weiss. Andrew Mittman will serve as executive producer

It was previously reported that the budget for the project is still being liquidated. The Warner Bros. film will begin production next spring in Queensland, Australia, with the film's premiere on October 1, 2021.
