Warning: SPOILERS for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles # 2
If a fan has missed the comic book crossover Mighty Morphin Power Rangers / Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesIt's officially time to jump on board. Because Tommy Oliver has finally yielded the role of the most powerful Green Ranger … to Shredder. Yes really.
The five-issue limited series event is the result of an alliance between IDW, BOOM! and Nickelodeon, specifically intended to give fans of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles a crossover for ages. One who has seen both teams of martial artists compare fighting styles, first as enemies and now as allies. The story so far has focused on Tommy Oliver joining the Clan Foot without informing his friends, but the real bombs have fallen. Not only why Tommy tried to infiltrate and manipulate Shredder, but how the dark villain drew up his own plan to strip Tommy of his power.
The Ryan Parrott creative team (Power Rangers: badly needed) and Simone di Meo (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) met the expectations of the first number, giving fans of both teams more than they could have expected. But as the heroes have put aside their weapons to discover the real dangers that are taking shape, the villains have also met. And proving that it is as dangerous to his mind as his muscles and martial arts, Shredder has discovered the secret of Tommy's Currency of Power. With Rita Repulsa knocking on her door, Shredder's moment (and appearance) could not be better.
The miniseries began innocently, following the turtles while responding to what looked like an ordinary Clan Foot attack. The only thing different was the masked ninja, with long and incredibly dangerous hair that guided them in their mission to steal a cutting-edge energy cell. The turtles ambushed that ninja, forcing him to reveal himself as Tommy Oliver and activate his Power Coin to transform into his Green Ranger form. The other Rangers were not far away, but Tommy refused to complete anyone on his mission. Fortunately, readers soon discover the truth: Tommy has hidden between his feet, seeking to save a boy named Tyler, who has been indoctrinated. The bad news? Tyler is so indoctrinated that he leaves Tommy unconscious to show his own loyalty to the Master Crusher.
Waking up in a cage, and not realizing that Shredder hopes to demonstrate how to activate his Power Coin, Tommy transforms, before returning to unconsciousness. Taking the Power Currency, presumably adding the Power Cell now in his power, and facing a new and arrogant enemy in Rita Repulsa, Shredder does the only thing that makes sense. Tommy Oliver may need to find a new call when (or if) Shredder releases him. Because as of today, there is a new Green Ranger in the city:
How will the combined forces of Shredder, Foot Clan and Rita Repulsa face the Ninja Turtles and the Power Rangers? Will your hunger for power mean that Rita puts her armies over Shredder, instead of the heroes? Which option has a better chance of preventing World's End? These questions and more will be answered when the number 3 arrives. But for now fans will not want to miss another minute before catching up, in which case the credits and plot synopsis for the next issue can be found below:
