SYNCING DATA ACROSS CLOUD PLATFORMS

Cloud storage has become an integral part of file storage and management in recent times. While this is the case, there is still much to learn in terms of utilizing these services to their maximum capacity. An example is syncing data across platforms, like migrating from OneDrive to Dropbox or moving files from one OneDrive account to another. Despite the unknowns of cloud storage, they are still being embraced for many reasons which include:

  1. Safety: Although cloud storage is prone to unique security risks, they are still more secure than local storage in important areas. For example, accessing a person’s devices does not necessarily grant access to the person’s cloud storage, as opposed to the local storage.
  2. Ease of access: With local storage, a person can only access their files when with the device that contains the local storage. Cloud storage, on the other hand, gives a person the luxury of accessing their file anywhere and on any device.
  3. Extra storage capacity: Cloud storage serves as extra storage space if the local storage has reached its maximum storage capacity.

There are other major reasons, but it all leads to the same fact: cloud storage has increased in acceptance and use.

Cloud Storage and Syncing Files

While cloud storage is essential, a major issue is how to sync files between different cloud storage platforms. In this article, the focus will be on moving files from one OneDrive account to another, migrating from OneDrive to Dropbox, and transferring files from Google Drive to Dropbox.

In dealing with these problems, there are two approaches:

      a.The manual approach, which can be confusing or exhausting;

      b.The easier approach.

The Manual Approach

Moving files between OneDrive Accounts: The manual approach involves accessing the concerned platforms and effecting a transfer or migration. In the case of moving a file from one OneDrive account to another, it involves ensuring that both OneDrive accounts are logged into. This can be done by using different browsers or using private windows on the same browser.

The manual approach of moving a file between OneDrive accounts typically involves the following:

1-Firstly signing into both OneDrive accounts – the source account (where the file is) and the destination account (where the file is to be transferred to). Create a folder in the destination account where the file would be transferred into.

2-The next step is to change the name on the source account to the name of the folder created in the destination account. This can be achieved by using the Flow Template.

3-The next step is to check out whether it worked by testing the folders. This is done by copying a file into the source folder and logging into the destination folder to check whether it is there.

4-When confirming that it works, copy the files intended for migration into the source account and it should automatically reflect in the destination folder.

That’s about moving a file from one OneDrive account to another.

Migrating files from Dropbox to OneDrive: Migrating files from Dropbox to one OneDrive account can be done manually, and it is not-so-complicated. It typically involves the following steps:

1-Open Dropbox via www.dropbox.com and log in using the account that contains the file to be transferred.

2-Upon successful login, find the file to be transferred and open the options bar for the file. The options bar typically includes the download option.

3-Click on the download option and choose a destination folder where the file should be downloaded into. The file will be downloaded into the device’s local storage. The file must be properly downloaded.

4-Open the device’s file manager. After opening the file manager, find the location where the file was downloaded to (from the Dropbox account).

5-Open a browser tab and log in to the destination OneDrive account After logging into the OneDrive account and opening the destination folder in the local storage, drag the file(s) to be migrated from the local storage into the browser tab where the OneDrive account is logged in. Ensure to have a strong internet connection. The file(s) will then be uploaded.

That’s about migrating a file from Dropbox to OneDrive manually. The same process applies to moving a file from Google Drive to OneDrive.
