Plot details:
In 1988, Tokyo was destroyed by a massive explosion caused by an experimental time machine. The Emperor of Japan orders the scientists to rebuild and rename it Neo-Tokyo in order to live and work there as part of his plan for Japanese domination. Kaneda is a live-action version of the protagonist from Katsuhiro Otomo’s landmark anime work.
The movie starts with Kaneda on his bike, riding through Neo-Tokyo, and being stopped by Colonel for speeding in front of him. He then notices Tetsuo running away after he almost runs into him during an argument between Akira and Kei.
