It’s been a long 3 years, but the third season of Virgin River is now over. And what an ending it was! In this blog post, I’ll be reviewing the finale and talking about some of my favourite moments.
Release date:
9 July 2021
Cast and characters:
– Alex (Jared Padalecki): Alex is a Marine Corps veteran who lives in the Virgin River. He’s often been the voice of reason to his friends and neighbours, but he can be quick-tempered when pushed too far.
– Zoe (Michelle Trachtenberg): Zoe is an FBI agent who was sent undercover as Alex’s girlfriend during her time in Virgin River. She’s an avid reader and animal lover who would have been a teacher if she hadn’t gone into law enforcement.
– Jack (Lenny James): Jack is the town sheriff, but he also runs his own mechanic shop. He can be gruff at times, but he loves his friends fiercely.
– Cassie (Molly Ringwald): Cassie is the local doctor who’s been a widow for many years. She has an only daughter, Grace, and her focus in life is to be a good mother and provide medical care.
– Jed (David Denman): The town pastor whose sermons are usually filled with humour. He tries to stay on his wife Melinda’s good side.
– Grace (Lauren Gray): Cassie’s only daughter and the apple of her eye. She loves animals, is a whiz with computers and has inherited her mom’s medical skills – she just doesn’t want to be a doctor though!
– Melinda (Emma Lahana): Jed’s wife was just a newlywed when the pilot episode aired. She’s been through some rough times, but she manages to keep her sunny disposition and optimistic outlook on life despite what has happened so far in the Virgin River.
– Dan (Tom Beyer): A carpenter by trade, he was running the local bar when the series began. He’s been through a lot with Jed and Melinda, but he has really come into his own as a pillar of Virgin River society during season three.
Plot details:
The Virgin River season three was a very dramatic episode with consequences that will surely be felt for the remainder of this series.
In the first part of the show Jed is recovering from his traumatic brain injury and he’s having trouble remembering things.
The doctors tell Melinda that Jed’s memory will come back gradually, and not to worry. But as the show goes on we see his personality change dramatically and he becomes violent with her.
This leads to a brutal fight between them before their daughter is born in which they both suffer injuries.
A few episodes later Jed becomes violent again and this time he shoots Melinda.
The episode ends with Jed being arrested for attempted murder, while a pregnant Melinda is recovering in the hospital.
