The Witcher 4 could present a new protagonist, not Geralt

With CD Projekt Red working hard in its sprawling science fiction sandbox Cyberpunk 2077, it's safe to say that a 2015 sequel The Wizard (the one with Wild Hunt) is still a long way off. However, given the unlikely success of Henry Cavill's Netflix adaptation, it's equally safe to say that the world will finally see a fourth installment in this beloved series.

While the developers aren't currently concerned with Geralt & co., One of them may have hinted at the direction their franchise might take. Jakub Szamalek, one of the story's top designers, briefly mentioned that he regretted that the team hasn't explored Ciri's character any further. He then hinted that such an error can still be rectified in the future.

"I regret that I was not able to explore Ciri's past a little more," said Szamalek. "She's an incredibly rich and complex character. Due to obvious reasons, well, she's gone almost two-thirds of the game, she didn't get as much screen time as the writers would have liked. But hey, maybe it's something to that we can come back in the future. "

Although this comment may be just a personal thought and not indicative of some elaborate development plan behind Red's doors, it could very well make it to the drawing board once Szamalek and his colleagues finally revisit their fantasy masterpiece. . After all, as Geralt's adoptive daughter, Ciri is sure to become a good lead in the series.

That said, whether the team is truly ready to ditch the titular monster hunter, whose name, thanks to Henry Cavill's performance, is tied to the franchise more intimately than ever, remains to be seen.
