Is Canon bringing a new rugged clip-on camera? Or they are not? Well, it is “WE” who will decide that. How can we decide? Well, by showing our interest in their new product idea on the crowdfunding site. Still not sure how? Let’s grab some details to understand all about it.
As we know, Canon is one of the largest camera manufacturers in the world and are pretty ahead in the number game. But they are taking the help of a crowdfunding site with this new product idea of theirs. Technically, cannon do not need a crowdfunding site to step in-to any new market but the perfectionists they are, cannon have decided to give what people want, or if they don’t want, to bring in its first action camera to reality. It’s called Ivy Rec and it’s a tiny, USB thumb drive-sized clippable action camera which is said to be waterproof, shockproof and has the ability to shoot stills and videos. The campaign is currently live on Indiegogo, although at this point, it’s more of a sign-up page to receive further information about the product. However, Canon is knocking 30 percent off the price, if you are going to pre-order it (whenever pre-orders go live). This is a bit of a surprising move for Canon but this could simply be a way of seeing how many people would be interested in such a product, before actually going ahead with the R&D, development, and marketing for what is, a pretty niche product and might to play it safe.
The Cannon Ivy Rec is set to have a 13-megapixel, 1/3-inch CMOS sensor, full-HD video recording potential up to 60fps, in-built Bluetooth & Wi-Fi and a complimentary app- CanonMini Cam, which will feature the facilities of getting a live preview on our phone and allowing the transfer images and videos to our devices. Apart from these facilities, what unique can Ivy Rec can offer is the unique design. According to DPReview, the camera is about the size of a small pen drive. It features a carabiner-style clip, which can be clipped on to things. It’s being marketed as “the ultimate, go-anywhere” camera.
Moving ahead, when we give a closer look into the images of Ivy Rec which is available on Indiegogo, the bottom of the yet-to-be-made device appears to have a standard tripod mount so it can be mounted on to portable tripods. When you look at the back, you can find a single shutter button and a mode dial but no viewfinder on the device anywhere. This mode dial has the power switch allowing us to switch between still, video, multi (including the burst mode) and Wi-Fi, for syncing with your phone.
All these details and feature makes the Ivy Rec from cannon a different and better version of the rugged clippable camera. We are used to seeing such cameras like GoPro. KeyMission series of action cameras from Nikon a few years back, etc. As Cannon is ready to take a step ahead with its debut, we hope the idea does go into the R&D stage for Ivy Rec to become a reality. We hope the Canon Ivy Rec becomes a reality as from the looks of it, it could be a fun little casual shooter to have around.
