Bethlehem Kudumba Unit recently captured the title of industry hit in Kerala by overtaking Vaazha 2 at the regional box office. However, this milestone has also brought an end to Mohanlal’s remarkable 39-year streak. For nearly four decades, a film starring Mohanlal had consistently remained among the top three highest-grossing movies in Mollywood.

With Bethlehem Kudumba Unit claiming the top Kerala industry hit, Thudarum has slipped to the 4th position on the list. This marks the first time the Malayalam superstar has failed to secure a spot among the top three grossers in Kerala. Nevertheless, the superstar still holds the record for the most 100-crore films in Malayalam cinema and remains its preeminent box-office draw.

Presently, Mohanlal’s 2025 release, Thudarum, sits at number four on the highest-grosser list within Kerala. The top three positions are currently held by Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Lokah, and Vaazha 2. Notably, Mohanlal still maintains four films in the top 10 highest-grossing films in Kerala—the highest count for any male lead actor.
