Anticipation is running high for Verity, widely considered the biggest book adaptation of the year, which arrives in Indian cinemas this October. Based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, the movie has generated immense excitement as fans await fresh, unfamiliar performances from Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson.
Following the release of the teaser and trailer, an intense kiss between Anne and Dakota has quickly become a major talking point. While Dakota recently shared her perspective on the moment, author Colleen Hoover has now weighed in on the gripping scene showcased in the footage.
Colleen Hoover On Verity’s Intense Kiss Scene
In an interview with Variety, Colleen confessed that the kiss made her nervous because it did not appear in the original novel. “That was one I was nervous about because it wasn’t in the book and I didn’t know how it was going to play out or how it was going to fit in, but it ended up being one of my favourite scenes — and made for a really fun trailer, too! So, I was relieved. As an author, when they add or take out something you hope it works, and luckily it did.”

Verity Plot & Storyline
Adapted from Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, this seductive, psychological thriller follows renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) and Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who relocates to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity. After Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes, she wrestles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Verity’s husband Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), and finds it hard to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession.

The film is directed by Michael Showalter. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing International, Verity is slated to release in India on 2nd October 2026, in cinemas only.
