The Malayalam-language thriller Aasha arrived in cinemas on Friday, September 11. Centered primarily on a mother-daughter relationship, the movie features Urvashi and Aishwarya Lekshmi in the main roles, alongside Joju George in a lead part. Although the feature blends family dynamics with thriller elements and has earned appreciation from both viewers and reviewers, it experienced a sluggish opening at the box office.
How Much Did Aasha Earn At The Box Office On Day 1?
The Malayalam action thriller got off to a quiet start, partly because the producers restricted its promotional campaign strictly to Kerala. On its first day, the picture brought in 29 lakh net domestically in India. Given the positive feedback from critics and audiences alike, the movie is expected to pick up momentum in the days ahead.
Urvashi stars as the mother, with Aishwarya Lekshmi portraying her daughter. The trailer immediately draws comparisons to Urvashi’s hit movie Achu Vinte Amma, in which she played the mother to Meera Jasmine’s character. Nevertheless, Aasha leans much more heavily into the thriller genre rather than serving as a straightforward emotional drama.

Aishwarya Lekshmi’s Homecoming To Mollywood
Dulquer Salmaan was not the sole performer making a return to Malayalam cinema following the box office failure of King Of Kotha (2023). Aishwarya Lekshmi also co-starred in that project and subsequently stepped away from the Malayalam film industry. She previously disclosed that she faced severe online abuse over the movie and had resolved not to share the screen with Dulquer Salmaan again.
Even so, Aishwarya’s return to her home industry has seen a modest beginning commercially. Her preceding major release, Gatta Kusthi 2, proved to be a box office success, pulling in 2.7 crore on its opening day in Tamil Nadu.
