Delnaaz Irani has opened up about her role as Gulshan Tarapurwala, an overbearing Parsi mother, in the Netflix project ‘Chumbak’. In an interview with Mid-Day, the actor shared that filmmaker Aatish Kapadia wrote the character specifically with her in mind, adding that she prepared for her audition by pulling old clothes from her own wardrobe.
Irani noted that she previously steered clear of Parsi roles because such characters were frequently boiled down to mere caricatures, but she chose to take on ‘Chumbak’ because it offered a complete depiction of a Parsi family along with its unique quirks.
