As email-based threats have grown significantly in recent years, many users have turned to secure email services for added protection.
However, users of the Tutanota encrypted email service have had difficulty checking their email from their smartphones recently since AT&T has blocked access to the company's services.
At the end of January, the company began receiving complaints from AT&T mobile users who could not access their Tutanova encrypted mailbox. Tutanova contacted the mobile phone operator who seemed willing to help solve the problem at the time, but two weeks have passed and nothing has been done.
In March 2018, a similar cut occurred when Comcast temporarily blocked access to Tutanova due to a technical problem. However, after connecting with a Comcast employee through Twitter, the problem was solved in one day.
Without going through the AT&T block
If you are a Tutanota user and an AT&T mobile subscriber, you can skip the operator lock on the service using a VPN
Tutanota co-founder Matthias Pfau argues that in the current digital era, the Internet must be treated as a utility so that ISPs cannot block websites or services, saying:
"The Internet as a free and open market is excellent for information, innovation and competition. That is why the Internet must be treated as a utility company, such as electricity or water. In our modern digital era, access Internet and all its content at the fastest possible speed has become a basic necessity for all of us. Therefore, no ISP should have the right to block or limit access to any website. We hope that AT&T will lift this block regional soon. "
