Box Office: Tom Cruise Crosses The $2.7 Billion Mark In The Post-COVID Era Despite Three Failures!

Tom Cruise started his post-COVID innings on a high note, delivering a mega blockbuster at the worldwide box office. His return in the iconic role of Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell shattered box office predictions and scored a massive total. Unfortunately, all of his subsequent releases proved disappointments, making it a hat-trick of failures for the superstar. However, despite such a poor track record, he has reached an impressive total in the post-pandemic era. Keep reading for a detailed report!

Tom Cruise’s post-COVID run started with a bang!

Tom has had four theatrical releases so far in the post-COVID era. It started with Top Gun: Maverick. Backed by solid hype, it started its journey on a good note and, thanks to positive word of mouth, displayed impressive legs throughout its theatrical run. Made on a $177 million budget, the film grossed a whopping $1.5 billion worldwide, emerging as a blockbuster.

Tom tastes a hat-trick of disappointments after Top Gun: Maverick

After Maverick, Tom Cruise returned with the seventh film in his Mission: Impossible film series, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Considering the franchise’s brand and Maverick’s halo effect, the film was expected to mint big numbers, but largely due to genre fatigue and strong competition from Barbie and Oppenheimer, it underperformed. It closed with $571 million worldwide against a huge $291 million budget.

Part One was followed by Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which also failed at the box office. Mounted on an astronomical budget of $350 million, it amassed only $599 million worldwide and was declared a failure.

Coming off a major disappointment, Tom Cruise was hoping to make a smashing comeback with Digger, but it turned out to be one of the biggest Hollywood disasters in recent times. Still running in theaters, it has earned just $41.72 million against a budget of $125 million+.

Goes past the $2.7 billion mark in the post-COVID era!

As we can see, after delivering a blockbuster, Tom Cruise has tasted a hat-trick of failures at the worldwide box office. Nonetheless, he has surpassed the major milestone of $2.7 billion in the post-COVID era, with his total now at $2.71 billion. With his next biggie, the actor will look to hit the $3 billion mark.

Take a look at the worldwide collection of Tom Cruise’s post-COVID releases:

  • Top Gun: Maverick – $1.5 billion
  • Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One – $571 million
  • Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – $599 million
  • Digger – $42 million

Total – $2.71 billion
