Haiwaan Box Office Day 1 (Early Trends): Akshay Kumar & Saif Ali Khan Enter Top 5 Crime Thriller Openings Post-COVID!

The celebrated on-screen pairing of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan has made its official comeback in the dark and suspenseful thriller Haiwaan. Marketed as a gripping crime thriller, the movie hit theaters nationwide on September 11, generating considerable interest among urban moviegoers and fans of the genre. It has now achieved its first official box office milestone.

Enters Top 5 Crime Thriller Openings Post-COVID

Based on early reports, the Priyadarshan-directed feature had a respectable start at the Indian box office, claiming the fifth-largest opening for a dark crime thriller in the post-COVID period. This debut successfully knocks Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Buckingham Murders out of the top five list.

Haiwaan Box Office Day 1 Estimates

On its opening day—Friday, September 11, 2026—early trends indicate that Haiwaan brought in between 3.5 – 4 crore. The production secured a broad distribution footprint with roughly 7,200 screenings across India. Due to the film’s gritty and intense nature, morning and afternoon slots saw modest attendance, resulting in an average daily occupancy of 11%.

As is typical for the genre, metropolitan markets drove the majority of the day-one revenue. Delhi-NCR paced the country with 750 shows, posting a promising 15.5% occupancy rate. Mumbai followed closely behind with 500 shows, achieving an occupancy of 12.3%. Evening and nighttime screenings experienced a solid upward trend, suggesting that positive word-of-mouth will be crucial for weekend momentum.
