In 2009, Gary Sinise met war veteran Brendan Marrocco, which inspired a smart homes project for wounded soldiers

Gary Sinise was motivated to start a smart home project for wounded soldiers after meeting veteran Brendan Marrocco. This project aimed to provide specially tailored homes for veterans with severe injuries. Sinise organized benefit concerts to raise funds for the first customized home built for Marrocco. Since 2011, the Gary Sinise Foundation has constructed over 100 mortgage-free smart homes for veterans.
