Jailer 2 North America Box Office: Registers Kollywood’s 4th-Biggest Premiere Of All Time, Beats Ponniyin Selvan!

We saw a peak of Rajinikanth with Coolie raking in mind-blowing numbers at the North American box office (USA and Canada) through premiere shows, and expectations were similar for his Jailer 2 as well, but the expected hype was missing. In pre-sales itself, it was clear that the film was heading for premiere collections below $2 million, and that’s exactly what happened. In the case of Coolie, the hype was insane for several reasons. The Telugu diaspora was excited about the Nagarjuna-Rajinikanth face-off, and the Lokesh Kanagaraj brand had its own value. Also, the promotional material was up to the mark. For the Jailer sequel, promotional assets were below par, and overall, the makers underplayed in the pre-release phase. Still, the sequel factor helped the film cross $1 million in premiere pre-sales.

Backed by good pre-sales and initial positive word-of-mouth, Jailer 2 packed a good number. It has been learned that the magnum opus grossed $1.4 million at the North American box office from premiere screenings. It equals 13.29 crore in Indian rupees. If we look at it in isolation, collections are strong, but due to high expectations, it looks a bit less than expected.

With $1.4 million, Jailer 2 has registered Kollywood’s 4th-best premiere at the North American box office. It surpassed Ponniyin Selvan ($1.11 million) to claim the 4th spot.

It also stars SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, and Vidya Balan in key roles. It features Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, and Hrithik Roshan in cameo roles. The film also features Vijay Sethupathi in a special appearance. It was reportedly made on a budget of 350 crore.
