Jailer 2 is Kollywood’s biggest release of 2026, with the potential to break existing box office records. It’s a sequel to the highly successful Jailer, so expectations are sky-high. A day before yesterday (October 5), the trailer for the magnum opus was dropped, and the overall reaction hasn’t been entirely favorable. Nonetheless, it is targeting a record Kollywood opening in India, surpassing the previous best, Coolie. Keep reading for a detailed report!
The trailer receives mixed responses from viewers
The recently released trailer was expected to be the most impactful asset for the upcoming action drama, but it couldn’t live up to the hype. Yes, it showcased Rajinikanth as a complete powerhouse, but the overall content looked repetitive, just like Jailer’s trailer. The X factor was missing; it felt like just another routine commercial entertainer from Kollywood with big cameos.
On the positive side, a glimpse of Mohanlal and the silhouette of Hrithik Roshan have sparked excitement among audiences, and their presence is definitely going to elevate Jailer 2 from an opening-day perspective.

Despite the mixed response to the trailer, Jailer 2 has enough buzz to mint massive numbers on its first day. Besides Rajinikanth’s presence, the sequel factor will attract big business on the opening day. Also, Nelson has built goodwill in the South market, which will play a crucial role in attracting the opening-day crowd. Cameos by Mohanlal and Hrithik Roshan will help the film attract eyeballs in Kerala and the Hindi market, respectively.
On the whole, Jailer 2 is aiming to score big on day 1, and is likely to amass 66-69 crore net. With such an expected start, the film is eyeing the biggest opening ever for Kollywood, beating Coolie (65 crore).
