Practical Magic 2 North America Box Office: Eyes A Modest Debut But Fans Could Make It A Sleeper Hit!

Now that Practical Magic 2 has arrived in theaters, conversation surrounding its opening weekend box office performance is in full swing. The picture is projected to give Warner Bros. a solid domestic debut relative to the studio’s other recent releases. At the same time, industry analysts suspect the feature could exceed expectations and turn into a sleeper hit. Read on for the details.

Because the movie picked up mixed reviews from critics, it will rely heavily on positive word-of-mouth to thrive commercially. Adapted from Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel The Book of Magic, the project serves as a follow-up to the 1998 original, which was a box office disappointment. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprise their roles, showcasing an even tighter sibling connection.

How much has the film collected so far at the box office?

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. anticipates Practical Magic 2 will pull in between $30 million and $35 million domestically during its first weekend across 4,000 North American locations. Conversely, industry observers forecast a domestic opening weekend of approximately $40 million.

Preview screenings in North America generated an estimated $3.5 million to $4 million. Meanwhile, international markets across 77 countries are pacing toward an opening weekend haul between $18 million and $23 million. Consequently, the worldwide opening weekend is projected to land anywhere from $58 million to $63 million. Even so, optimism is building that the film could overdeliver, fueled by its identity as a sequel to a cult favorite cherished by Gen Z and millennial women.

More about the movie

The 1998 predecessor secured $13.1 million during its opening weekend in North America on its way to a domestic lifetime total of $46.7 million. The new installment centers on the Owens sisters as they face a dark curse threatening to dismantle their family permanently in a cinematic showcase filled with magic, mischief, and fun.

Directed by Susanne Bier and starring Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Dianne Wiest, Stockard Channing, Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, and Xolo Maridueña, Practical Magic 2 debuted on September 11.
