Ranabaali X Review: “Rashmika Offers Relief”, “Routine Template”, & “Lavish Production” – Netizens Give Mixed Reactions To Vijay Deverakonda’s Film

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s film, Ranabaali, has been released in theaters. The film marks their on-screen reunion after 7 years. They have worked together in films like Dear Comrade and Geetha Govindam. The Rahul Sankrityan directorial is a period drama set in the late 1800s, when India was under British rule. The film takes us through the real-life effects of the famine in southern India. The film introduces a savor into the equation and takes the narrative forward.

Vijay Deverakonda-starrer marks his potential comeback to the big screen. The actor did not have great luck at the box office post-COVID-19. The film has been released on the same weekend as Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2. While Vijay’s film had a slow start at the box office, it will have to bank on strong word of mouth.

Ranabaali X Reviews

Audiences who watched the film on day 1 took to social media to share their thoughts. So far, the film has received mixed reviews. Take a look at audience reactions to the film:

A user on X wrote, “The film blends fictionalized rebellion with the real historical suffering of the famine, framing Ranabaali as a local legend who leads raids and guerrilla resistance against British rule. Vijay’s committed and inspiring performance and Rashmika’s presence, along with lavish Production values and a few action episodes, stand out, but the screenplay often lacks depth, undermined by slow narration, making it feel a little tiring despite its worthy subject and well-intentioned storytelling.”

Another person wrote, “Papam sincere attempt. But the plot itself feels outdated!!These British revolutionary films have rarely found success in TFI and RANABAALI is no different. Even VD didn’t fit. Rashmika is the only one offering some relief. Lacklustre & ineffective throughout.”

Another review read, “#Ranabaali starts well with good writing and brilliant set work. The Jayamma–Ranabaali episodes work well, and the cave fight is a mass highlight!Worth watching in theaters if you enjoy historical period dramas!”

A person who disliked the film wrote, “Ranabaali One of the worst films in recent times. Absolute torture porn masquerading as cinema. Endless blood, gore and violence against women, children and the poor, with zero empathy for the victims. Dumb villains, mindless heroism and a caricaturish Vijay Deverakonda.”

A review read, “#Ranabaali Below avg!

The genre itself is beaten to death and cannot be expressed without being a routine template.

Rahul tried to add a devotional touch but that didn’t really work for me🥲

VijayDeverakonda is fantastic and #Rashmika as Jayamma is👌”

More About Ranabaali

Director Rahul Sankrityan describes his film as an alternate-history film, which means it takes a part of history and reimagines how it could have played out. The upcoming film is set against the backdrop of the 19th-century famine in southern India under British rule. Vijay plays a fictional character who is also the savior of his people.

Vijay Deverakonda expects this film to mark his grand comeback. The actor has not had a great run at the box office post-pandemic. The film also marks his on-screen reunion with Rashmika Mandanna after Dear Comrade in 2019.
