Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is enjoying an exceptional box office run, outperforming expectations during its debut weekend. Holding strong at the #1 spot in the United States, the movie has officially carved out franchise history with its opening-weekend earnings.
On its first day alone, Zach Cregger’s feature outpaced the entire three-day opening weekends of prior installments. By the end of its first weekend, its domestic haul had already eclipsed the complete lifetime domestic grosses of earlier films in the series.

Kicking off at #1, Resident Evil pulled in a record-breaking $26.3 million on its opening day, a figure that incorporates Thursday preview screenings. Despite earnings dipping on the second and third days, the R-rated video game adaptation still comfortably soared past $60 million for the full debut weekend.
