The Cat in the Hat is an upcoming animated fantasy movie based on the 1957 book by Dr Seuss. The animated feature, directed by Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoja, is the second film based on the book of the same name, following the 2003 live-action film. Bill Hader voices the titular character alongside Matt Berry, Quinta Brunson, Xochitl Gomez, Tiago Martinez, Giancarlo Esposito, and America Ferrera in other characters’ roles.

How does it stack up against The Grinch?
The Grinch was released in 2018 and, on the same weekend, had a much better opening at the North American box office. It collected $67.5 million in its debut weekend. Therefore, this upcoming animation will not surpass the 2018 adaptation. The Grinch collected $272.2 million in its lifetime at the North American box office.
Based on the early estimates, the upcoming film would beat the 2003 live-action adaptation. For the record, The Cat in the Hat collected $38.3 million at the domestic box office, and the animated feature will beat it if it lands in the projected range. But there is still time in the release, and the numbers are subject to change.
