The director, renowned for period adaptations, explores lust through a distinctly female gaze. Aditi Rao Hydari stars as Saira, a literature professor deeply engrossed in erotic novels who eventually starts writing her own with great skill. Chaos ensues when one of her intimate manuscripts goes missing and falls into the hands of a publisher couple who entice her to write more.
Preventing the tale from turning purely tragic is her supportive husband, Badru. Upon discovering his wife’s erotica, he proudly champions it, encouraging other husbands to read and learn just as he did. It results in a happy ending, allowing Saira to successfully communicate her desires through her literary craft.
Karan Johar – Lust Stories 1 – Self-Satisfaction
Few would have anticipated such a provocative film from Karan Johar, the filmmaker who popularized the ethos of Pyaar Dosti Hai and family-first values. His segment in the original Lust Stories sent shockwaves through a society that routinely treats sex as taboo and female pleasure as virtually nonexistent.
Watching a prominent lead actress like Kiara Advani perform a self-pleasure scene in front of her husband and in-laws to the tune of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is inherently jarring. Beyond the initial shock value, however, the underlying concept merits applause, making it arguably the most memorable segment in the entire franchise.
Lust Stories 2 – The Mirror
Before helming an acting role in Lust Stories 3, Konkona Sen Sharma directed a segment in the second season. Starring powerhouse performers Tillotama Shome and Amruta Subhash, the short film investigates class, desire, and gender dynamics.
The narrative highlights the imaginative premise of the anthology, focusing on two women, their personal desires, and the lengths they will go to feel fulfilled.
In this segment, Tillotama plays an upper-middle-class woman who secretly observes her maid having sex with her husband. Rather than intervening, she watches closely and derives pleasure from it. When the maid becomes aware of the situation, she chooses not to confront her employer, and the arrangement persists, prompting a fascinating examination of their psychological and professional dynamic.
Shakun Batra – Lust Stories 3
Ali Fazal and Radhika Madan star as Varun and Sainee, a married couple heading toward divorce. After five years following a joyful wedding, mounting issues—including a critical mother and widening differences—lead them to pull the plug on their marriage.
Their separation takes an emotionally turbulent yet humorous route. Unable to spend five minutes without fighting, their arguments invariably lead them back to bed. Though emotionally detached and committed to breaking up, they continue giving in to their physical bond. Ali and Radhika project authentic onscreen chemistry, particularly during their fiery disputes.
Amit R Sharma – Lust Stories 2 – Tilchatta
Kajol’s involvement in Lust Stories instantly sold the concept. In her career’s second phase, the actress has embraced experimentation and bold new roles.
She portrays Chanda, a former sex worker married to Suraj (Kumud Mishra), a wealthy, influential man who treats women merely as objects of entitlement and desire. Exhausted by nightly abuse, Chanda endures the marriage solely to secure a prosperous future for her son, Yuvraj.
Capitalizing on her husband’s obsessive nature, she plots a revenge scheme. However, the climax delivers a devastating twist that upends her world entirely, leaving viewers equally stunned.
