The Odyssey Box Office: Crosses $600M In North America; Debuts At #1 In Japan By Crushing The Dark Knight’s Weekend

The Odyssey has achieved a major North American box office milestone alongside a powerful opening in Japan. The movie continues to display strong theatrical legs, with an IMAX extension running through the end of September providing an additional boost to its earnings.

The Odyssey crosses the $600 million milestone at the North American box office

The mythological epic brought in a solid $7.4 million during its ninth three-day weekend in North America. After holding exceptionally well domestically for several days and overtaking Spider-Man: Brand New Day for the #1 spot, it shifted to #3 over the weekend, experiencing just a 43% drop from the previous weekend.

The Odyssey ties Finding Nemo with a 59-day streak of earning over $1 million in North America, marking the sixth-longest streak in history. According to Box Office Mojo, the Christopher Nolan-directed feature surpassed the $600 million domestic threshold even after losing 329 theaters on Friday. Its total domestic cume now stands at $600.5 million, making it the 18th film ever to clear $600 million domestically.

Rocking debut in Japan!

Upon its long-awaited release in Japan, the film captured the #1 spot and outperformed the regional opening of The Dark Knight. It pulled in an estimated $4.2 million for its opening weekend in the country, landing close to the $4.4 million debut of Tenet. The Odyssey sits behind Inception ($8.9 million) and The Dark Knight Rises ($5.7 million) in the territory.

However, its Japanese debut outpaced Interstellar ($1.6 million), Oppenheimer ($2.5 million), Dunkirk ($3 million), and The Dark Knight ($3.1 million). The film has generated enthusiastic word-of-mouth, earning a 4.4-star audience rating that marks the highest of Nolan’s career. The Odyssey originally hit theaters worldwide on July 17.
