This week, the Hollywood Reporter published its annual survey of domestic box office performance. And judging by the numbers, it’s been a slow recovery for movie studios:
For 2017, there were an estimated 1.2 billion fewer tickets sold domestically than in 2016. This year’s top film (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) comes in at No.11, or nearly half of last year’s top film (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) in terms of tickets sold (the top 12 films of 2016 and 2017 were virtually tied in tickets sold). Only four movies released during 2017 broke the $300 million mark at the domestic box office. The highest-grossing movie of 2016 had 23 films that crossed that same mark. There were a total of 17 movies released during 2017 that grossed at least $100 million in the United States and Canada.
Introduction to the Top Gun: Maverick
Maverick was always a clever fellow. The only problem is that he’s such a clever fellow, that nobody knows what he’s been up to! This espionage film chronicles Maverick’s misadventures in the life of an agent for the CIA, as well as his experimental work for his amusement.

The Top Gun: Maverick is probably one of my favorite movies of all time because it shows the viewer just how much fun can be had with creative freedom and imagination. It’s also true to life. The characters and plot are fantastic. Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer do make a good team, as do Jon Bon Jovi and Anthony Edwards. I especially love the scene where Maverick goes up against a dog named Radar in a mock dogfight. The entire movie is just so fun and exciting to watch!

The storyline of the Top Gun: Maverick
The film follows Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as he starts his training at the Top Gun Naval Flying Academy. For most of his life, Maverick has been living under the shadow of his father, who is a legendary fighter pilot. When we first meet him, Maverick is a reckless and cocky pilot who pushes the boundaries of flying to their limit and often surpasses them. He has become a national sensation, but he is also an irresponsible, immature kid who does not act like a true adult. However, as Maverick gets more and more training, he begins to mature as he discovers himself. This maturing process culminates at the end of 2001 when Maverick becomes the youngest Top Gun instructor ever.

Top Gun is considered one of the best films ever made because it contains elements that make it so universally appealing. Its soundtrack is one of the most iconic movie soundtracks in history. The flight scenes are both realistic and exciting, and the dogfights are thrilling. There is a sense of honesty that permeates the film, which makes it so great.
