Wildwood North America Box Office: Here’s How Much It Needs To Beat Laika’s All-Time Biggest Hit Domestically

Wildwood is making news for all the right reasons, and as Laika’s latest animation hits screens, speculation around its box office performance is at its peak. The film has potential given its strong ratings, but it needs a huge number to become the studio’s all-time biggest hit at the North American box office. It would have to beat Coraline to achieve this feat. Keep scrolling for the deets.

The stop-motion animation has won over moviegoers, earning a strong A CinemaScore, one of the best audience grades in the studio’s history. It matches Kubo and the Two Strings’ A grade while surpassing the B+ scores received by ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, and Missing Link. The film is poised to have a modest debut on its opening weekend at the North American box office.

How much does it need to become Laika Studios’ biggest hit at the North American box office?

For the unversed, Coraline by Laika Studios is their all-time highest-grossing film at the North American box office. Coraline was released in 2009 and is a stop-motion animated gothic dark fantasy horror film. It stars the voices of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, and Ian McShane.

According to Box Office Mojo‘s numbers, Coraline collected $116.9 million in its lifetime at the domestic box office. It remains Laika’s all-time biggest hit since 2009. It is eyeing a domestic debut of $11 million+ this weekend. For the record, Coraline recorded $16.8 million in its original opening weekend in North America. Therefore, Wildwood will not land far behind, and with a stronghold, it can achieve the #1 spot among Laika’s all-time biggest domestic hits.

What is the film about?

The film follows a teenage girl named Prue and her classmate Curtis as they venture into an enchanted forest to rescue her infant brother, Mac, after he is abducted. Their search leads them to a mysterious manor, where they encounter Alexandra, a woman haunted by the tragic loss of her son, who warns them of an impending war. Wildwood was released in theaters on October 23.
