Following the massive box-office triumph of Nag Ashwin’s mythological sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD—which crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark globally—the director feels the project merely scratches the surface of Indian mythology’s science-fiction capabilities.
The blockbuster successfully weaves together elements of Indian mythology against the backdrop of a grim, dystopian future in the year 2898 AD. Buoyed by this reception, Ashwin is convinced that the genre holds a vast amount of untapped potential.
Production on the upcoming follow-up, tentatively titled Kalki 2898 AD Part 2, is officially slated to kick off its regular filming schedule in October 2026.
