The Lord of the Rings: The Power Rings Introduction
The Lord of the Rings is a series of three epic fantasy novels, written by J. R. R. Tolkien, with many illustrations and maps created by the author. The story revolves around a much-desired magic ring that has been forged by an ancient civilization to control ten other rings gifted to lesser beings as well as to help them govern their behavior and (in Sauron’s case) consolidate their power over Middle Earth’s inhabitants.

The Ring of Power is related to the plot only in a very general way. It is mentioned early on, but not in enough detail to give the story any significant direction (which is why so many writers have taken their liberty with it). Overall, it stands as one more mysterious object of the plot. However, the essential part of its role in The Lord of The Rings concerns its attempt at wearing down Frodo’s spirit and breaking his will.
