When Bakaiti premiered last year, it followed the exact template of Gullak! While Gullak featured peele chawal aka Tehri, this Dice Media production centered around a water tank (Pani ki Tanki). Returning for its second season, the show brings back the same overflowing water tank that no family member is quick enough to turn off, accompanied by the persistent alarm and another round of the Kataria family attempting to navigate middle-class life efficiently and happily.
For viewers who missed the first season—much like we did—here is a quick introduction. The Katarias consist of a core family of five and an extended family of nine. There are two Kataria brothers, Sanjay and Ajay, alongside their respective wives, Sushma and Alka. Sanjay works as an advocate in the Ghaziabad District Court and struggles financially while living in the ancestral home, Kataria Kutir, with his wife, two children, and father-in-law. Meanwhile, Ajay is the financially stable brother who manages the family’s ancestral furniture shop. He lives in a well-furnished home in a posh neighborhood with his wife Alka, their son Aman, and his father, who passes away during the first season. Following his death, the two brothers bickered over the family property, and Season 2 picks up right where those unresolved tensions left off.
Bakaiti Season 2 Review: What’s It About:
The narrative picks up immediately after the previous events. The elder Katarias continue to grapple with monetary struggles, while Ajay and his family move in with them after their own home experiences flooding. The season starts with a havan for domestic peace and prosperity that devolves into sibling squabbling before prayers conclude—a solid gag indicating the series still understands its comedic timing. From that point, Sanjay Kataria (Rajesh Tailang) gets overwhelmed by mounting expenses after sending his daughter Naina (Tanya Sharma) to Mumbai for her education, which ultimately forces him to take on an unaffordable loan. Concurrently, Sushma (Sheeba Chaddha) seeks to finally focus on her boutique, while their son Bharat’s romantic life adds further strain to an already overburdened household.
Together, the nine Katarias drive this bickering family drama. Can they succeed together as a household despite the fights? Do they choose happiness over mere pleasure? Do they value relationships over finances? These core questions shape the premise of this seven-episode second season.
Bakaiti Season 2 Review: What Works:
The series retains its slice-of-life appeal by spotlighting everyday domestic chaos. One day everything goes smoothly, and the next, everything falls apart. Kitchen politics, room arrangements, and petty jealousies over who receives more affection generate silly family disputes that naturally bring a smile to the viewer’s face. This lighthearted dynamic works to the show’s advantage. The dialogue remains simple, episodes move quickly, and viewers are spared any heavy emotional baggage while watching.
Bakaiti Season 2 Review: Star Performance:
The performances of the two lead actors form the strongest element of the show. Rajesh Tailang delivers a deeply convincing portrayal of a man quietly crushed under financial strain, wearing Sanjay’s exhaustion naturally without ever overacting. Sheeba Chaddha maximizes even the slimmest dialogue through expressive glances and half-smiles, and the chemistry between the pair remains a standout asset. Tanya Sharma and Aaditya Shukla inject youthful energy into the subplots, while the supporting cast effectively makes the household feel genuinely lived-in.

Bakaiti Season 2 Review: What Doesn’t Work:
The primary drawback is that despite the numerous conflicts introduced, none of these plot threads lead anywhere substantial. In each episode, a dispute arises, escalates, and resolves just in time for a fresh crisis to emerge from the exact same ingredients—money, ego, and household chores. Furthermore, the builder subplot, which ought to grant Sanjay’s character arc genuine moral weight, rushes toward a hasty resolution that feels unearned.
Bakaiti Season 2 clearly attempts to emulate the Gullak tradition of mining drama from ordinary, mundane lives. However, adopting another show’s blueprint only succeeds if something fresh is added to the table, and Bakaiti S2 largely recycles its previous material. At this stage, even Gullak faces rhythm challenges in its latest outing, and the same fate befalls Bakaiti. The conflicts and resolutions repeat continuously, making it seem as though the creators assume relatable middle-class crises will automatically connect with audiences even in the absence of strong writing.
Bakaiti Season 2 Review: Last Words
Bakaiti Season 2 provides fleeting moments of comfort via its charming ensemble, yet it ultimately falls prey to overused middle-class tropes. Lacking robust writing to match the acting capabilities of Sheeba Chaddha and Rajesh Tailang, this installment functions as a lukewarm follow-up that fails to leave a lasting impression.
Sheeba Chaddha and Tailang step away from the grander, bhaukaal-driven universe of Mirzapur for this more intimate middle-class setting, and their on-screen chemistry alone clarifies why casting directors frequently pair them together. Nevertheless, Bakaiti Season 2 stumbles into the exact trap warned about in Season 1—confusing repetition with realism—rendering the familiarity less relatable and more manufactured. Still, it remains watchable strictly for the leads if you are looking for something undemanding.
PS. To be honest, not a single person in this family is actually a Bakait! It remains a mystery why the show is titled Bakaiti.
