Plot summary:
Sam Becket is a scientist who goes back in time to try and change the past. He has two children, Alanna and Michael, with his wife Claire. She becomes pregnant again but when they find out she’s been part of an experiment to test the effects of time travel he volunteers for the mission.
He travels to the past and is thrown into a world where he’s unable to contact his family in the future. He has no choice but to keep going back, trying desperately not only to find out what happened between him and Claire but also how they can have children of their own. There are many obstacles that Sam must face on his journey; the first being his reunion with a girl he knew from this time and secondly trying to find out who is responsible for killing Alanna, Michael’s twin brother.
Theme:
The movie starts with Beckett (played by Daniel Craig) in modern-day London tracking down Alanna’s sister, Samara (played by Keira Knightley). He finds her and soon they find themselves drawn to one another despite their situation.
She was killed in an accident at school that Sam witnessed but couldn’t prevent because of time travel rules: she ran into him as he tried to save her life. This is when he realized that his future timeline had been altered and splintered off.
He is looking for a way to get back there but so far, hasn’t found any leads. Michael has given up hope of ever finding the cure because Sam always comes back from his journey just as lost as before.
He has been following her around for weeks and she is starting to get annoyed by the attention. She wants him to leave so Beckett tells her his story of how he’d been in a future timeline that had been altered and splintered off. He is looking for a way to get back there but so far, hasn’t found any leads.
Michael has been a bit of the voice of reason in this cause. He is more aware and has been trying to talk Beckett out of wasting his future time hopping from one place to another looking for Alanna, who he would never find again.
