Plot :
The story of the Soprano family, a Mafia dynasty in New Jersey. Each season is set roughly six months after the previous one and tells the events that occur in this time frame. The show starts with Tony’s mother, Livia (Nancy Marchand), being diagnosed with terminal cancer and ends on the day of her death. The Soprano family business has been the cement and construction industry, but the series also deals with the illegal international drug trade.
In Season One (1999), the focus is on the Soprano family’s racehorse business, Tony having to deal with the Freeholders’ plans to build a highway that will cut through the horse fields and racetrack. This leads him into conflict with New York boss Johnny Sack (Vincent Pastore) over the use of union labour at a construction site in Derry Township, the county seat of the County.
Tony has also been approached by the Russian mobsters Greg (Dan Grimaldi) and Vlad to provide them with “muscle” at a construction site in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
Tony is distracted from this when he learns that his daughter Meadow’s friend Jackie Jr., son of John Sacrimoni’s soldier Jackie Jr., has been bragging about the Sopranos’ business.
In Season Two, the FBI is investigating the Soprano crime family, so the mobsters are more careful about what they do and say.
After the death of Jackie Jr.’s father, Tony pays him a visit to ensure his silence on the family’s business. Tony then hires Dr. James Kauffman (Steven Schirripa) as the family’s new psychiatrist. Tony is also the subject of the long-term HBO Max documentary.
It’s the summer before Meadow would be starting at Princeton, and Tony does his best to distract her from the impending separation by doing all the things she likes, taking care of the house (although Livia is still around), driving her to and from work
Tony has been the most attentive he has been in the last few years, but the minute she sets foot on campus, Tony’s attention starts to wane.
To the outside world, the family seems as strong and united as ever; the kids are growing up, Carmela is enjoying her time with the grandchildren. But this facade of a perfect life starts to crumble when Tony’s mother, Livia (Nancy Marchand), passes away from lung cancer on Mother’s Day.

A documentary about the life and times of Tony Soprano – the head of a New Jersey crime family. The show is loosely based on the real-life story of mob boss Ralph De Matteo, although it deals with other characters like his mother, Livia (Nancy Marchand), and the troubled son AJ (Robert Iler).
The show also features Tony’s family, most notably his wife Carmela Soprano, played by Edie Falco, and their children Meadow Soprano (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) and Anthony Jr. or “AJ” Soprano (Robert Iler). The series has dealt with a variety of issues like the effects of zips on the local economy, the legalisation, and subsequent take-over by the Mafia of the local waste management industry.
Tony Soprano is a fictional character and the protagonist in the HBO TV series The Sopranos. He was played by American actor James Gandolfini for six seasons until his death from a heart attack in 2013.
