NewsDio Desk : An investigation has been underway after Wales players have received racially centric messages on social media. Ben Cabango and Rabbi Matondo were the victims to the abuse as they played a key role in registering Wales’ 1-0 win against Mexico on Saturday.
Both Matondo and Cabango, aged 20 were mentally disturbed in view of the message, as Matondo is angered by Instagram while there has been an official statement from Football Association of Sales which says that it feels very disgusted due to the whole thing.
Facebook has come with an explanation where it has permanently removed the ‘said’ accounts from which the messages have come and is also very focused on taking further steps so that such a thing doesn’t occur in future.
South Wales Police is working on ascertaining the origin of the message which was directly concentrated on Matondo and Cabango.
Facebook in an official statement said that it is very strict with regards to racial abuse on Instagram and has already removed those accounts from which the messages have been sent to the players
The social media platform has said that it has built tools where public figures don’t have to receive messages from the specific accounts, which they don’t follow. Likewise, it is taking tougher stand for those who will break the rules in DMs.
Facebook is already working towards the same and is very committed to do more and it is expecting a collective effort to bring a possible change where the need for action as well as education is equally important.
The FAW has a “Zero Policy” for any sort of discrimination as it is very much unacceptable. It is also in touch with South Wales Police to ensure that justice is delivered where the exact cause should be ascertained.
There has been a collective voice where it is requested that social media platforms should take timely actions so that such a behavior is opposed and rejected in the strongest of terms.
Matondo took to twitter to highlight the racial abuse he got. There has obviously been a sense of restlessness where he again wrote a week later where Instagram has done nothing concrete about racial abuse.
South Wales Police has categorically said that such an objectionable behavior won’t be tolerated under any circumstances in the community and proper steps are underway.
Everyone takes hate crime very seriously and the concerned authorities are doing every bit to sensitize the masses and make every one aware about it which has happened with players and supporters in the past.
The duo is just an addition to what seems to be a never ending list of players who have also been racially abused in the past through social media like Reece James, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford etc.
These messages are quite vulnerable as they can damage the very fabric of the society. Hence, concrete steps are to be taken to bring back the culprits to justice.
